About the project
Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities has redeveloped their site at 139 Greys Avenue in central Auckland. The new building allows Kainga Ora to house more people in a supportive housing environment, promoting improved wellbeing outcomes for their customers and the local community.
Te Mātāwai at 139 Greys Avenue is a welcoming, connected and supportive environment that promotes greater health and wellbeing. There is a community hub on the ground level along with 24/7 support services and concierge service within the building. The building provides a safe and welcoming place to live, work and visit.
There is over 2000 sqm of indoor communal space for community making and engagement. It features a number of spaces including a shared kitchen, dining hall, recreation space and rooms for the provision of health services on site. Informal gathering spaces on each floor have been designed to help create a sense of home and community.
Te Mātāwai combines public housing with supportive services designed for people who need it most. Within this environment, residents can build positive social networks and have accessible services that will support their health, well-being and personal development.
Demolition began in 2019 and the project was completed in June 2023.
