About the project
The Quay Street Enhancements project has revitalised Quay Street creating an attractive streetscape with beautiful māori design, wider footpaths for pedestrians, cyclists, and e scooters, designed for a 30km/h speed, with street furniture, trees, native planting, raingardens, and opportunities for business and events.
Between Lower Albert Street and Lower Hobson Street there is now only one traffic lane in either direction, with dedicated bus lanes and a bi-directional cycleway.
By retaining Quay Street’s function as a destination and reducing its use as a through road, we have created an attractive waterfront street that safely accommodates multiple modes of transport and enhances connections between the city centre and the waterfront.
Dates
Completed May 2021.
