About the project
We are planning to upgrade the area around City Rail Link’s (CRL) Karanga-a-Hape Station, which is currently being built, to tie in with the already upgraded Karangahape Road neighbourhood. This upgrade will make connecting between bus, bike and train easier and safer.
Karangahape Road is one of Auckland’s most vibrant, diverse, and creative neighbourhoods where you can find an amazing mix of hospitality and independent retailers.
The area is also an important corridor for several major bus services. The new Western Express (WX1) bus service operates with high all-day frequency along with other high-frequency bus services connecting west Auckland, North Shore, Ponsonby, Westmere, Newmarket and Auckland City Hospital.
When the City Rail Link opens, it will be even easier for people to get to and from the Karangahape neighbourhood from south, east and west Auckland. We expect to see up to 40,000 people using the Karanga-a-Hape Station entrances in Beresford Square and Mercury Lane every day.
This project makes improvements to the streets around the CRL station to prepare for the opening. When the work is done, travelling through the neighbourhood will be easier, safer, and more intuitive and welcoming.
Dates
Construction will take place from July 2024 to October 2025. The work will be completed before the CRL opens to avoid on-going disruption and take advantage of the current construction closures.
